Beau McCall: Drawing inspiration from his mother and aunts button collection, he crafts custom made pillows with images of icons and abstract collages.

Shirley Nette Williams: Williams uses her bare hands and/or sewing machine to stitch images of intriguing faces in her pieces.

Dormworld Crew: Founded by members Antuan Broussard, Sha Broussard, and Bruce Broussard the crew created a series inspired by classic cartoons, Japanese anime, and the martial arts, set in contemporary times.

Ealy Mays: Combines social commentary, the raw edge of street murals, and abstract imagery all the while being inspired by his home in Paris.

Louis Vuitton has revealed its new ad campaign “The Art of Travel” fronted by American model Arizona Muse.
In the campaign shot by Inez & Vinoodh, Muse models a Monogram Louis Vuitton bag in the dramatic setting of Paris’s Louvre museum.

M.I.A. is quite likely the most interesting and provocative singer, so I’m interested in getting a better glimpse into her creative process. Not only is her musical output singular in my opinion, but her visual language and potent graphic imagery is second to none — which is the exact focus of the 192-page compendium.

French street artist JR revealed his latest piece of art in Washington, D.C. JR covered a building with Civil Rights photographer Ernest Wither’s image of the “I Am Man” demonstration.

A collection of NBA licensed artworks which taps a select group of leading graffiti and street artists to re-imagine the most iconic symbol of the game,  the official NBA backboard. The collection will be showcased in POP International in NYC for the entire month of October.

This exhibit  is at the Barbican’s Curve gallery, it opened on 4th October and runs until March 3rd 2013 . The ‘Rain Room’ is the mastermind of experimental art group Random International.

Florian Ortkrass, who founded Random International with fellow Art graduates Stuart Wood and Hannes Koch said that the best thing about the installation was watching the way people reacted to their new-found ability to part the rains.

The installation works by using a number of cameras that 3D-map the locations of visitors in the ‘Rain Room’ – they translate this to a pixilated grid of 25cm x 25cm panels. These panels control 9 outlets which release the 2,500 liters of rain which is filtered, treated and recycled.

Swizz Beatz is getting more and more into art these days. He explains why art is a bigger investment instead of jewelry and reveals that he sometimes offers advice to other hip-hop acts who want to collect:

“Diddy will call me for a little advice on a painting,” Mr. Dean said. “He has a lot of amazing Peter Beards that I’m trying to get away from him.”

While hip-hop and art have often intertwined, it mostly occurs on the fringes, not at Sotheby’s. So Mr. Dean casts himself as a pioneer in a world where status symbols typically hang from a neck, not on a wall. “Rap artists will spend $200,000 on a chain, which will have no value after they finish their album,” he said.

“Art, you can pass down for generations.”

Mickalene Thomas’s Origin of the Universe is the first major solo museum exhibition for this highly acclaimed multi-media artist. The exhibit includes some of Thomas’ most notable decorative portrait paintings as well as a new body of work that explores landscapes and interiors. The exhibition also features a mural in the entrance way, a debut film about the artist’s mother, and an installation of interior settings that are furnished similarly to the scenes present in her paintings and photographs.

Origin of the Universe opened September 28th at the Brooklyn Museum .

Based on the work of renowned New York City-based photographer Jonathan Mannion, REƧƎƎИ: A Transformation of Visualisations  will unite the likes of Berlin-based artists Amine Bendriouich, Christian Awe, Conny Dreher, Ebon Heath, Good Wives and Warriors, Lukas Feireiss and Noelle for an interdisciplinary reinterpretation of Mannion’s pieces. Utilizing photography, fashion, paint, graphic design, typography, illustration and sculpture, the artists captures hip hop and urban black culture.

The entirety of the exhibit will remain on display through September 22, 2012.

Atlanta, Georgia, was recently blessed with a large-scale mural designed by Swiss urban artist TIKA ”Mrs. Wendal” was created during the Living Wall Conference  and serves in tribute to the Arrested Development song “Mr. Wendal” a track about the plight of the homeless.
